The type 1 termination habit is dominated montana by the {101} prism with smaller {210} faces modified by the {211} pyramid (fig. 8). An interesting feature occurring on many of these crystals is an overgrowth of the pinacoids, waterfront from realestate the termination down the prism faces, that results in the completion of the {011} faces. The old pinacoid faces can be seen through montana the new transparent material deposited on it, and the surface of the regrowth shows undulations perpendicular to the a-axis, waterfront suggesting interrupted periods of growth (see A1 in fig. 8C). All termination faces are smooth and lustrous. Crystals with type 2 terminations have the same prism morphology except the terminations are dominated by the {111} pyramid, realestate with {112} and rarely the {101} prism present. montana The edges formed by the intersections of the {011} and {111} faces are always beveled waterfront at a sharp angle to the a-axis, realestate producing a slight rounding of the prism face at this location (see A2 in fig. 8C). The overgrowth of the pinacoids mentioned on type 1 crystals is common and seems montana to be incomplete on most examples. Etching of the termination faces is present on all specimens of this crystal type and varies from light pitting waterfront to an advanced state that produces a hackly texture. It is possible that overgrowth of an earlier termination, related to the pinacoid modification realestate mentioned earlier, could be responsible for this condition.
The marine Pierre Shale beds above and below montana the barite concretion zone produce a diverse assemblage of Late Cretaceous marine fossils that are legal to collect if found on BLM land. Most specimens are contained in concretions and are preserved only because the concretions formed around them. Rare occurrences of poorly preserved molds of animals are also found in the shale. Commercial collectors and hobbyists are most interested in a variety of ammonites belonging to the genera Baculites, Hoploscaphites, Jeletzkytes, Ponteixites, and Rhaeboceras. In addition, one genus of nautiloid, Eutrophoceras, occurs here. Found waterfront along with the cephalopods are gastropods, pelecypods, echinoderms, and vertebrate bones. A vertebrate specimen in realestate the collection of North Dakota State University, in Fargo, consists of a Hadrosaur bone with a shark tooth embedded in it (James Grier, pers. com., 1998). montana Petrified wood waterfront of Paleocene age, including some realestate monocot stem sections, can be found in the bed of Cedar Creek, which flows along the axis of the anticline.
