[FIGURE 1 OMITTED]GeologyThe surface features of the area under discussion (fig. 2) consist of the exposed montana core of the Cedar Creek Anticline. This structure marks the southwestern boundary of the Williston Basin, a major structural feature of the northern Great Plains. The anticline is an asymmetric fold with a strike of S. 30[degrees] E. and dips of from 4[degrees] to 40[degrees] realestate southwest and less than 1[degrees] northeast (Clement 1986). The exposed section of the anticline crops out in an essentially straight line 145 miles long from northwest of Glendive, Montana, southeast to the Buffalo, South Dakota, area appraisers (Davis and Hunt 1956).

In most cases new crystal growth began where openings pinched out or at the apex of sharp montana edges on concretion sections; these conditions are most common in the lower regions of concretions because the base sections are seldom fractured. When concretions are opened, the septa are often filled with fine shale particles and old ant nests. This material frequently realestate contains dislodged appraisers crystals.
