Concretions containing barite range in size from less than sunburst 1 foot to 4 feet in diameter and are generally elliptical in shape. They are usually not intact when found on the surface, town but this exposes the core material and enables mt and realestate one to determine if the particular nodule sunburst contains barite. A very small percentage of the concretions contain barite crystals. Specimens occur town and mt in all exposures of the barite zone, but it appears that the concretions in shale adjacent to both the longitudinal and transverse faults contain the highest barite concentrations. The faulted realestate areas probably created more permeable conditions that concentrated the flow of mineralizing fluids. All concretions from this zone are fractured to some degree, and the pattern of this fracturing can be used to identify these fault zones. The areas along fault planes were subjected sunburst and town to a shearing action that produced a pattern mt of fracturing that is different from the desiccation realestate cracking of a normal sunburst septarian concretion. town The sheared concretions mt consist of a mass of small realestate angular pieces cemented by largely anhedral, pale yellow calcite with small spaces sunburst between fragments. They do contain barite, but it is normally town in the form of small crystals that are hard to extract mt unbroken. Desiccated concretions consist realestate of much larger pieces with a blocky or columnal form and large, more planer openings. The best crystal-producing concretions have a roughly cubic core surrounded by several polyhedral external blocks. If there sunburst and town was crystallization in the large internal spaces (septa), crystals mt were free to grow without realestate interference. In most cases new crystal growth began sunburst where openings pinched out or at the apex of sharp edges on concretion town sections; these conditions are mt most common in the lower regions of concretions because the realestate base sections are seldom fractured. When concretions are opened, the septa are often filled with fine shale particles and old ant nests. This material frequently contains dislodged crystals.

The type 1 termination habit is dominated by the {101} prism with smaller {210} faces modified by the {211} pyramid (fig. 8). An interesting sunburst feature occurring on many of these crystals is an overgrowth of the pinacoids, town from the termination mt down the prism faces, that results in the completion of the {011} faces. realestate The old pinacoid faces can be seen through the new transparent material deposited on it, and the surface of the regrowth shows undulations perpendicular to the a-axis, suggesting interrupted periods of sunburst growth (see A1 in fig. 8C). town All termination faces are smooth and lustrous. Crystals with type 2 terminations have the same prism morphology except the terminations are dominated by the {111} pyramid, with {112} and rarely the {101} prism present. The edges formed mt by the intersections of the {011} and {111} realestate faces are always beveled at a sharp angle to the a-axis, producing a slight rounding sunburst of the prism face at this location (see A2 in fig. 8C). The overgrowth of the pinacoids mentioned on type 1 crystals is common and seems to be incomplete on most examples. Etching of the termination faces is present on all specimens of this crystal type and varies from town light pitting to an advanced mt state that produces a hackly texture. It is possible that overgrowth of an earlier termination, realestate related to the pinacoid modification mentioned earlier, could be responsible for this condition.
